How do I set up my Blackberry to work as a modem on PC?

How you can use your Smartphone (Blackberry and other Phone) as a modem (tethered) to access the Internet on your PC. This tethering advance feature, you must have an APPROVED DATA PLAN associated with your account because some carriers stopped allowing people to use their existing blackberry data subscriptions. So, you might need to either first be on an unlimited Blackberry plan or a plan that allows you to do whatever you want because, there are so many blackberry subscription connections by so many different GSM carriers in the places i've stayed before and (Since there many types of Bb OS now, some of the network carriers allowed certain Blackberry types to have unlimited data, while some are based on data cap, and no matter how much you subscribed with.

Anyway, to cut the long story short, there are several means that one can connect, tether or share their Blackberry subscription to their PC and or many other devices. Either through the USB cable or Hotspot. So, most of all the previous settings will still be used since this set-up is just the beginning and is necessary if you're going to be using your USB cable. I wrote before and do note that, some of these features may not work anymore since they all depends on your network configurations as mentioned above and since some of these networks are now limiting these features due to the type of subscription you are on and there are variety of Blackberry OS's and some even support android OS after some certain upgrades (In other words, it network based now).

So, some of the following still count since you have to or need to install your version of Blackberry Desktop Manager (BDM) software before you move onto the next stage.

There are 4 tasks you need to do:
Task 1: Install BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.1 or later on your computer, depending which you have with you. After installing the drivers that allow the Blackberry Smartphone to communicate through the Universal Serial Bus (USB) port and virtual communications port are installed. The standard modem inbuilt, which allows the connection to be initiated later on.

Note: If upgrading your Blackberry Desktop Software from version 4.0 to 4.1, the required virtual communications port and standard modem might be removed during the upgrade process. If this is the case, re-install the Blackberry Desktop Software 4.1 or later and choose the Repair option to re-install these components. And all this depends on the version Windows OS you are on but, they are all installed the same way.

Task 2: Set up an Internet APN.

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel
Double-click Phone and Modem Options
In the Phone and Modem Options window, click the Modems tab
Select Standard Modem and click Properties
Click Change Settings
In the Standard Modem Properties window, click the Advanced tab
In the Extra initialization commands field, type the following under CODE:

at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet"

Click OK.
